Blake Morgan Reignites His Passion For Creating

Creativity is Back In Vogue for Morgan

By BLAKE MORGAN

More than five years passed since I published something creative. Whether I was a photographer, video editor, or artist, I was constantly creating something. There were certainly blockers, but the biggest impediment was my confidence. Exercising creativity only in the workplace sharpens a specific series of skills that can leave folks feeling unbalanced. I felt that the most productive thing I could do was invest in my work, but what makes me valuable is my curiosity .During our anniversary trip to Vermont in early October, Abigail and I realized that I had to get back to basics to see a path forward. The world is changing quickly, and the more comfortable I can be with feeling uncomfortable, the better I am at adapting. So what can you expect? More photos, blog posts, writing, and all the rest. I am pushing myself to post on social media and share my writing, chipping the rust away from my insecurities. Who knows what will come of it, but I am ecstatic to be back in action.

Humidity’s Long Siege Is Called Off by the Dew Point

Push Alerts Now Tell the Windows When to Open

By BLAKE MORGAN

BROOKLYN — Below-grade living means one recurring decision: open the windows or seal the place up. After a summer of data, the answer at Mr. Morgan’s garden-level apartment now arrives as a push notification.

The method started with an audit. Fifteen-minute electricity readings showed what the portable air-conditioner, dehumidifier, exhaust fan and dryer actually cost.

Then came the rule: compare outdoor dew point to indoor conditions, and ventilate only when outside air will dry the room instead of soaking it.

Bunco Social Comes to Carroll Gardens, A Tested Playbook

Flexing Community Building Muscles

By BLAKE MORGAN

It's no secret that people are spending more time alone. Hosting is out of the question for most, and invites are scarce. After finding a group of friendly neighbors in Carroll Gardens, I've realized that leaving the bars and actually forging community is the next chapter. It can be so easy to just show up, have a few, and then head home. Routine dulls connections, though, and Bunco is the fix.

In Charlotte, I tested this idea thanks to Abigail's grandmother insisting it was a fun game we should play. She was right. The rules take 60 seconds to explain, and you get to interact with everyone involved throughout the game. In an ideal scenario, 12-20 people come together and mingle and leave feeling connected.

I'm hoping to get a Bunco Social started in November and test this theory. I'm betting people want unique experiences. Let's see if I'm right.

Backyard Fig Overachieves; Grapevine Declines to Comment

By BLAKE MORGAN

BROOKLYN — The fig tree behind Mr. Morgan’s apartment is carrying more fruit than it has any right to, a heavy green set that has the household planning for jam.

The grapevine, pruned hard earlier this year, showed clusters in spring and then produced nothing but leaves. Its intentions remain unclear.

Elsewhere in the yard, a tall stranger in a raised bed is under investigation. Sunflower and Jerusalem artichoke are the leading suspects.

Bird activity is steady with fall migration under way. A sourdough starter in the kitchen also remains active, though it is not considered part of the garden.

The fig's success has raised questions about what, exactly, went right. The leading explanations are a mild spring, a sunny corner and a season of benign neglect. The household is careful not to change anything that might break the streak.

Jam remains the plan, pending ripeness.
